Two weeks into my daughter’s closet reno and we find ourselves at the halfway mark. To me the halfway mark is one of the most exciting points of any project. Its at this point I can finally start shopping for the little details. Like the boxes that will go on the top of the closet to hold extra linens or the mini stool for holding shoes. It’s all about the little details! Today I’m going to be sharing with you some pieces I’ve picked up to pull this closet renovation together.
When it comes to organizing, boxes are your friend. Take my daughters closet for example. I’ve ordered four types of boxes for just this little space. On the top of her closet I’ll be using Bigso Storage Cube from the Container Store to store sheets, extra toys, and out of season clothes. In the center of the unit I’ll be using a clear bin to hold hair ties, headbands, and clips. And beside that I’ll be placing her jewelry box. That way it’s well out of her little brothers grasp. I’m also adding a functional stool to the closet as well. The top of the stool comes off making it the perfect place to store shoes. No perfectly lining shoes up in my kiddos room. Just drop the shoes into the stool and go.
I’m also switching out the old plastic hangers to thin velvet hangers. In my experience clothes tend to hang better off velvet hangers and are less likely to fall off. And the velvet hangers are thinner leaving more room in the closet for additional clothing.
I’ll also be adding a clothes hamper from Pehr Designs to keep dirty clothes off the floor. For years I kept a dirty clothes hamper in the hallway right outside of my kids’ room, but neither one of them ever seemed to use it. Or when they did I had to hound them to put their clothes in their. But by putting hampers in their rooms, where they could be seen, the children do a great job of taking of their dirty clothes and tossing them into hamper. Try it in your kiddos rooms!
Now that I’ve shared some of the organization pieces I’m adding to my daughter’s closet, I’d love to hear from all of you. How do you organize your closets? Is there any must have pieces, boxes, or hangers that you have to use?
